Community Communications project
(aka possible Mouth replacement)
The Mallacoota Mouth was discontinued well over a year ago now and many community members have told us that they really miss it.
MADRA is pleased to advise that it has entered into an agreement with Australian Business Volunteers (ABV) to investigate the feasibility of a new Community Communications Platform that might fill some of the gaps left by the closure of the Mouth.
ABV have appointed a team to work on the project, headed by the East Gippsland based ABV Program Manager, Michelle Shaw, and the registered volunteer, Mac Thomson. Together they will work with MADRA, the local "communications group", the wider Mallacoota and District community and other stakeholders including East Gippsland Shire Council.
ABV plans to provide a clear feasibility assessment, practical options and examples, and recommendations to choose from, so that any future communications platform remains firmly community owned, financially realistic and strengthens Mallacoota’s social connection and disaster resilience.
ABV has started consulting with key stakeholders and are keen to receive further input from the wider community and organisations.
You can contribute your ideas in two ways:
Join us at the MAD Community Catchup to be held at 3-5pm on Sunday 19 July (details below).
And/or email your thoughts to MADRA.3892@gmail.com
MAD Community Catchup: 3 to 5pm Sunday 19 July at the Muddie
Please join the MADRA Committee for afternoon tea at the Muddie.
We would like to discuss current projects including the communications project (Mouth replacement?) and hear about community projects that your organisation is working on.
We would also like your input on current priorities for our District and what you would like MADRA to focus on next. This will help the MADRA Committee to contribute to a workshop that Council is hosting on 31 July and to update our Action Plan.

Psychological First Aid training
10am to 1pm Saturday 18 July at the Mallacoota Main Hall
Build the skills and confidence to support people after an emergency.
This training is aimed at community support workers including volunteers. However, please consider this training if you are a potential volunteer or can use these skills in other ways. The more of these skills we have in the community, the better!
