Our guest speaker is Professor Jacki Schirmer, a renowned researcher into community wellbeing who is based at the University of Canberra. We want to explore what makes communities more resilient to disaster and life in general. And can those things help us to decide what to do next in our District?

There will be an opportunity for Q + A and general discussion. This event is generously supported by the Gippsland Community Foundation.

Update - Community Communications Project

Thanks again to the many people who contributed to the community survey run by MADRA in September.

While not statistically representative of the whole District, the responses confirmed that there is demand for a trusted local communications service that provides news and information including notices of events, updates from community groups and other organisations, and opportunities for learning about our locality and community. The responses also emphasized the need for the service to be provided by a trusted community organisation; either an existing one such as MADRA or a new community group. Both digital and print access are preferred. These results were fed into the review of options conducted for MADRA by Australian Business Volunteers (ABV).

MADRA has now received a detailed report from ABV. This report provides extensive research from across Australia and internationally that supports these views and added that the challenge is to ensure that any service is accountable, financially viable and doesn’t place too great a burden on the community. ABV have provided advice on alternative models, which include partnering with other organisations. MADRA is still considering this report in conjunction with local experts and has started reaching out to potential partners in order to learn more.

Watch this space. We will provide further updates as the project progresses.

In the meantime, are there any Advertising Sales experts in our district who might be willing to advise us further?
